Apple and Corning Bring 100% of iPhone and Apple Watch Cover Glass Production to Kentucky

Apple and Corning are deepening their long-standing collaboration with a $2.5 billion commitment to produce all iPhone and Apple Watch cover glass at Corning’s Harrodsburg, Kentucky facility. For the first time, every unit sold worldwide will feature precision glass manufactured entirely in the U.S. This expansion includes creating the world’s largest and most advanced smartphone glass production line, boosting Corning’s Kentucky manufacturing and engineering workforce by 50 percent, and launching a new Apple-Corning Innovation Center dedicated to developing next-generation glass technologies.

The partnership highlights the integral role of American-made glass in the global consumer electronics market. Corning has been a key Apple partner since the debut of the first iPhone in 2007, with its Harrodsburg plant producing the Ceramic Shield—the toughest glass in any smartphone. With decades of glassmaking expertise, this new investment reflects a continued commitment to innovation, materials engineering, and scaling advanced manufacturing capacity in the United States.

Part of Apple’s broader $600 billion U.S. investment plan over the next four years, the project supports onshoring critical components and strengthening domestic supply chains. Beyond cover glass, Corning also provides raw materials to other Apple partners, reinforcing its strategic importance in U.S. high-tech manufacturing. As the demand for durable, sustainable, and high-performance glass grows, this expansion signals both companies’ shared vision for advancing cutting-edge glass production on American soil.
