Purpose

To examine the state of the North American glass industry, including employment trends, competition, and U.S. trade and industrial policy.

  5-7 members, including a chair

Deliverables


  • A set of recommendations for review by the Board of Trustees. Recommendations will be actions GMIC should urgently undertake to support its members and the glass industry in 2025 and beyond. Sample recommendations include, but are not limited to:
    • GMIC determines legislative agendas at the federal/state levels
    • Retains a lobbying firm 
    • Identifies gaps in industry data required to support members and influence policy makers
    • Builds collaborative relationships with other glass or trade associations
  • An approximate timeline for implementation of recommended activities
  • An approximate budget for implementation of recommended activities

Expected Time Commitment


  • Four to five one-hour virtual meetings starting the week of March 24 and ending by May 30, 2025.
  • One to two hours outside of each meeting to complete workgroup assignments. Slightly more for chairperson.
  • Delivery of recommendations by June 2.
  • June: Board reviews recommendations, timeline, financial implications.
  • Note: following Board action on recommendations, workgroup members will be welcome to join a standing GMIC Industry Advocacy committee.

Staff/Office Resources for Chair/Workgroup (Exec. Director)


  • Scheduling and managing Teams meetings 
  • Meeting notes and follow-up on assignments
  • Support for research on potential consultants, lobbying firms, etc.
  • Guidance on budget and timeline development, staff capacity

Desired Skills


  • Interest or knowledge of industry data and resources
  • Knowledge or experience in industrial policy development, industry advocacy, trade policy, lobbying, etc. 
  • Interest or experience in industry or legislative coalition building
