Celebrating Excellence: GMIC 2025 Awards Roundup
The Glass Manufacturing Industry Council (GMIC) continues to spotlight the people and technologies pushing the glass industry forward. At the upcoming 86th Glass Problems Conference in Toledo, Ohio (October 7–8, 2025), three awards recognized outstanding individuals who exemplify innovation, excellence on the shop floor, and leadership. Here’s a look at the 2025 honorees and why their work matters.

We’re honored to recognize Dr. Alexis Clare of Alfred University as the recipient of this year’s Women in Glass Award, sponsored by the Air Products Foundation.

Dr. Clare is a distinguished leader in glass science and a Fellow of both the Society of Glass Technology (UK) and the American Ceramic Society. Her extensive research has advanced understanding across diverse areas — from photonics and biomaterials to applied and industrial glass technologies.
Beyond her scientific achievements, Dr. Clare has made an enduring mark as an educator and mentor. Her creativity and energy in the classroom have inspired countless students to explore innovation within the field. Her groundbreaking 1990s video, “What is Ceramic Engineering?”, introduced a new generation to the world of glass and ceramics.
Dr. Clare’s inclusive, student-centered approach continues to shape the next wave of glass scientists. As one former student reflected, “Dr. Clare made her grad students feel like family… and that openness led to great sharing of ideas in science and research.”
Congratulations, Dr. Clare, on this well-deserved recognition of your lasting contributions to the glass community.
We’re proud to announce Neil Simpson of Simpson Combustion & Energy as the recipient of this year’s Glass Innovator Award, sponsored by CelSian.

Throughout his career, Neil has redefined what’s possible in combustion technology and energy efficiency. From developing the first Simpson burner for LCV wood gas in 1993 — still applicable to modern lehr and oven operations — to advancing burner design, furnace control, and operator training, his work has had a lasting impact across the global glass industry.
With 17 patent applications and a long history of mentoring and teaching at the Glass Problems Conference, Neil has elevated technical excellence and inspired countless professionals along the way.
As Neil nears the close of an extraordinary career, we celebrate his innovation, dedication, and the enduring legacy he leaves behind. Congratulations, Neil, on this well-deserved honor.
We’re proud to recognize Victor Camacho, Director of Operations at Gallo Glass Company, as the recipient of this year’s Glass Manufacturing Excellence Award, sponsored by the Glass Manufacturing Industry Council (GMIC).

Victor’s impact on the glass industry spans nearly two decades, beginning in 2006 with Fevisa, continuing with Ardagh Group, and now with Gallo Glass. His leadership has consistently driven operational excellence — improving efficiency, reducing waste, and strengthening production standards across forming operations.
Beyond his technical achievements, Victor stands out as a mentor and leader. His commitment to developing the next generation of specialists ensures a strong and sustainable future for the industry.
Congratulations, Victor, on this well-deserved recognition — and thank you for your continued contributions to advancing glass manufacturing.
